In February of 2020 I did the painting below of Greta Thunberg.
I was moved by this young soul dedicating her life to saving the planet from extinction. I had written a book in January called Soulful Voices which was the heart of her vision long before I knew about Greta. This month on PBS there is a brilliant documentary about Greta and I was inspired to paint this spirit again. My greatest concern is for my grandchildren and life beyond them. I believe we are at a turning point on this planet and now is the time for Action. Whatever I can do to make a difference....USE ME USE ME USE ME...I would love to align with Greta and Auction these paintings off for her cause so if anyone out there knows how to reach her pass the information onto me! TOGETHER WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD.

If we could take a walk on this beautiful day, this is the place we would go. This quiet path is where I live in my mind every hour of the day. I would love to share a meditative moment with you, my dear Friends Join me as we sing the song below and join hands spiritually on this Peace Filled Path. Lovely Day (Bill Withers)
When I wake up in the morning, love And the sunlight hurts my eyes And something without warning, love Bears heavy on my mind Then I look at you And the world's alright with me Just one look at you And I know it's gonna be A lovely day (lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day) When the day that lies ahead of me Seems impossible to face When someone else instead of me Always seems to know the way Then I look at you And the world's alright with me Just one look at you And I know it's gonna be A lovely day (lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, lovely day) I love the idea of something welcoming me off in the distance and trees that form a framed in the landscape of life.
Some days it feels best to walk a country path and take in the fresh air and let go of the busy energy around me. This painting did just that for me. It inspired me to be loose and willing to let the wind bend and sway me.
Finding My Purpose Again I have not painted in 2 months because I dedicated my time to clearing the home of my Dear Marmie Beck who passed away recently. Once the clearing was done I wondered what the next image would be. I am so moved by the recent news about the abuse happening to the Asian Community. It stirred me so much that I knew I had to "Speak" with my brush about the feeling I have. It came to be that the children are watching and so a child's face represents this community. My HeART is breaking. I want to live in a Polite Society. I was raised on the Golden Rules and when I see how people are being treated my only recourse is to paint and pray that the images bring quiet reflection and peace to the viewer. If you have an Asian Non Profit you support please send me the information. [email protected] To read about my dedication to Non Profits check out this story in the recent INSIDE NAPA VALLEY MAGAZINE "Moments" is the painting underneath this new piece. Although it is gone what it birthed seems to reflect a "Moment in Time"?

GIVE THEM A CHANCE by Jessel Miller Give them a Chance to Light the Way, Waken to a brand new Day. Filled with Promise and a Grace, We need to share upon this space. This earth we love in soil we grow, A common good we reap and sow. Today sweet Liberty we see In country we call brave and free. My prayer is simple and yet true, For everyone red white and blue. Join hands and hearts and we will be A place the world calls Harmony. This piece was born in April 2020. I kept feeling so much unrest in the country and it concerned me. I was raised in Canada, yet have lived in the US since I was 16. I believe in the beauty and freedom we are privileged to experience every single day.
Home of the Brave and Land of the Free I changed the image several times until this week and finally I felt like the image had it's story. This country has nurtured and supported me for years. I am nestled in the most beautiful valley surrounded by vineyards and mountains. How Grateful I am to be an American and now I believe we must put our efforts into healing and uplifting each other and giving back to a country that is the best place to live. Below are my process paintings of Martin Luther King Jr. I started with the top image and thought the page needed Martin when he was a child. It felt too busy so I eliminated his face as a child and just left color around him. Something still felt off so I tried to go back to the original more silent piece with white and when I stepped back the white had formed doves all around Martin's face. I knew then the piece was complete! "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." Martin Luther King Jr. “The quality, not the longevity, of one’s life is what is important.” Martin Luther King Jr. “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear. Nonviolence is absolute commitment to the way of love. Love is not emotional bash; it is not empty sentimentalism. It is the active outpouring of one’s whole being into the being of another.” Martin Luther King Jr. “We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.” Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
by Jessel Miller Martin, did you hear the call? Here and now to stand up tall. As a child did you understand? The workings of the world so grand. What made you take the path to see? The worst and best humanity. Believe in Good and God and more, And hope we'd try another door. To a place called Color Blind, A land you searched for in your mind, I stand beside you in my Soul. Knowing there is one true goal. To live in peace and harmony On earth and air and in the sea. Live Love your daily epitaph. Live Love the only righteous path. Live Love the kindest way to be. Live Love and it will set you free. |
