Below are my process paintings of Martin Luther King Jr. I started with the top image and thought the page needed Martin when he was a child. It felt too busy so I eliminated his face as a child and just left color around him. Something still felt off so I tried to go back to the original more silent piece with white and when I stepped back the white had formed doves all around Martin's face. I knew then the piece was complete! "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." Martin Luther King Jr. “The quality, not the longevity, of one’s life is what is important.” Martin Luther King Jr. “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear. Nonviolence is absolute commitment to the way of love. Love is not emotional bash; it is not empty sentimentalism. It is the active outpouring of one’s whole being into the being of another.” Martin Luther King Jr. “We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.” Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
