In Honor of their passing one year ago today I am resending the image I created the day after their tragic accident taking the lives of many amazing Souls.

GIVE THEM A CHANCE by Jessel Miller Give them a Chance to Light the Way, Waken to a brand new Day. Filled with Promise and a Grace, We need to share upon this space. This earth we love in soil we grow, A common good we reap and sow. Today sweet Liberty we see In country we call brave and free. My prayer is simple and yet true, For everyone red white and blue. Join hands and hearts and we will be A place the world calls Harmony. This piece was born in April 2020. I kept feeling so much unrest in the country and it concerned me. I was raised in Canada, yet have lived in the US since I was 16. I believe in the beauty and freedom we are privileged to experience every single day.
Home of the Brave and Land of the Free I changed the image several times until this week and finally I felt like the image had it's story. This country has nurtured and supported me for years. I am nestled in the most beautiful valley surrounded by vineyards and mountains. How Grateful I am to be an American and now I believe we must put our efforts into healing and uplifting each other and giving back to a country that is the best place to live. Below are my process paintings of Martin Luther King Jr. I started with the top image and thought the page needed Martin when he was a child. It felt too busy so I eliminated his face as a child and just left color around him. Something still felt off so I tried to go back to the original more silent piece with white and when I stepped back the white had formed doves all around Martin's face. I knew then the piece was complete! "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." Martin Luther King Jr. “The quality, not the longevity, of one’s life is what is important.” Martin Luther King Jr. “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear. Nonviolence is absolute commitment to the way of love. Love is not emotional bash; it is not empty sentimentalism. It is the active outpouring of one’s whole being into the being of another.” Martin Luther King Jr. “We may have all come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.” Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
by Jessel Miller Martin, did you hear the call? Here and now to stand up tall. As a child did you understand? The workings of the world so grand. What made you take the path to see? The worst and best humanity. Believe in Good and God and more, And hope we'd try another door. To a place called Color Blind, A land you searched for in your mind, I stand beside you in my Soul. Knowing there is one true goal. To live in peace and harmony On earth and air and in the sea. Live Love your daily epitaph. Live Love the only righteous path. Live Love the kindest way to be. Live Love and it will set you free.
I believe WE NEED to protect our young ones from the weary words and world we are living in right now and always...All Ways.
As we struggle through a hard time in History let us join hands and circle and protect our children and grandchildren. LOVE IS THE ONLY ANSWER Creatures are the Original Settlers on the land. They desire only to be respected and made precious in their silent quest for peace. This week I honor all creatures, adding just a bit of humor and color to their coats. May these images bring a smile to your Face and tender thoughts to your Soul. Animals have rights that we need to Honor. They cannot speak, yet their language is universal. We know the sound of pain or fear or joy...we just have to listen. All images below were completed this past week. I started some of them months ago, and let them gestate until the paper spoke to me and guided me to the final images. Below you can see the Piggly Wiggly and how it started, as well as the Monkey Moments first incarnation that changed direction and image. The original images are available as prints and products at Jessel Miller Products Animals know but never tell. Animal's eyes have the power to speak a great language and tell stories. Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains asleep. Piggly Wiggly started as a hippo. I added the word vulnerable because research said these creatures are becoming extinct. I painted over this image and did the pig instead yet feel I need to do a Hippo at another time. |
